(Quotes I liked from the book)
“ A long time ago, I’d learned i was good at “handling” life. I didn’t excel at it, and I certainly didn’t thrive at it, but I could handle life and everything it had thrown at me.”
“I thought you were a ranch hand,” I said as we paused in front of my monster-sized bag. “Sounds more like you’re a ranch bitch.”
“It was a truck thirty years ago,” I said, examining it again. The thing couldn’t be street legal.
“This is a corpse on wheels.”
“What? No way.” he replied, sound a little offended.
“This is Old Bessie.”
(If I had a truck part from everybody calling something old Bessie I could probably build my own Bessie!
“Miss me?” he teased, shifting in his seat until he got comfortable.
“Like a tumor,” I shot back.
Jesse chuckled, shaking his head
“Rowen Sterling: Putting the wise back in wiseass. I think I’ve found a kindred spirit.”
“Johnny Cash?!” I shouted. “Shit, this is worse then I thought. you don’t just listen to country. You listen to prehistoric country.” Pinching it with my fingers, I held it out for him. “Take it. Just take it. Before it burns me.”
“Have I mentioned that I love you, Rowen Sterling?”
Now, Jesse’s ass… that was fucking beautiful. (I can only imagine his ass and boyyyy it’s a nice ass.)
I loved how I was about to make love to the guy of my dreams on a mattress on the floor of a drafty old farmhouse attic. It wasn’t exactly the stuff fairy tales were made of, but it was my tale. And I’d never envy that cinderella chick again (I LOVED THIS)!
My first initial thought of this book was meh, why not. I really enjoyed this book and the humor that went along with it. I was laughing the minute I started the book and yes, there were scenes that were sad and made me want to cry but for the most part, I was laughing and always had a smile on my face. This booked showed me a lot about how easily we are to judge somebody we all do it some may deny doing it but, everybody does it. It really breaks my heart that we are all so quick to judge somebody. What happen to the take the time to get to know your neighbors or your coworkers? The world has changed and it’s just getting worse the longer it goes on.
Garth Black- Who was this guy? Mr. Tall dark and dangerous? I understood he didn’t “fit in” like Rowen didn’t want to fit in but, why wasn’t his story mentioned? It seemed to me he was only in the book when it was convenient for his charter to make an appearance. The only information that understood about Garth was that he lived a life he didn’t want people to know about he didn’t let his walls down like Rowen didn’t want to let her walls down. Like Garth said “From one very un-golden person to another we will never be known as the ones to take the easy path. We will never be known as the ones to way or tails and play fetch because that’s what the world expects of us. You and me, Rowen, we’re a dying breed.” How are they a dying “breed” when Rowen can change her aspect on her life and life in general? I guess I just really want to know Garth’s story and I’m sure there is a book but, if there isn’t a book about Garth when will there be I want to know his story Damn it :D!
Rowen Sterling- “There wasn’t a rhyme or a reason to the universe and those who occupied it. we were here. Some of us for long durations and some of us for not so long, but the one thing we humans could depend on from life was pain.” Growing up myself and knowing how rough life can be I can understand what she means by us depending on life to give us pain, but that is not all life offers. In the situation that Rowen was in with her mom’s boyfriend and how her mother took his side then showed up at Willow Springs ranch with Pierce is pain that I don’t know if I would be able to handle. Rowen is a strong person she just needed to see that in herself and with Jesse and his family’s kindness and help she found the person she could be a jean wearing, boots loving mismatch clothing girl that could go anywhere in life.
Jesse- “And last but nowhere near least, I wear tight jeans because I like the way the girls’ heads turn when I walk by.” Jesse was a character I came to love the minute he was introduced. Fun loving, strong, independent man what a good head on his shoulders. He would do anything for anybody in the blink of an eye. Hearing what happen with him and Josie was heartbreaking to say the least. I was really surprised the Josie was the one to break it off with Jesse then it be the other way around. I personally think they shouldn’t have ended but, would that leave us with a story no. I was excited him and Rowen had gotten together and she didn’t end up with Garth. Everything about their build up to their relationship was happy and sad Rowen helping Jesse see something he didn’t and Jesse helping Rowen overcome her fear of letting people in and helping her find herself.
